WORKSHOP PORTUGAL (01-07)
At the 1st of December we were invitated by the organisation of AVISAN, Expoaição National de Aves e Animais de Companhia, in Santarèm, Portugal. We organised with friends a workshop: How to keep pheasants? This workhop contained;
-a powerpoint presentation in Portuguese language about Pheasantry de Rooie Hoeve,
-a presentation of a reader of 55 pages, made by Marianne v.d. Wittenboer, with basic information about keeping pheasants, also in Portuguese language,
-an interactive discussion about the chapters of this reader in Englisch with portugese
translation. There were 25-30 visitors in this workshop.
AVIAN FLU (01-07)
In February 2006 we stared again with vaccinate all the birds in the Pheasantry against A.I. Now the birds are protected till the beginning of April 2007. Till the end of 2006 birds must keep in closed aviaries separated from wild birds from the nature. Nowadays it’s quiet with regard to the A.I. There were in the Netherlands none affairs of A.I. in 2006. We hope that in the future registered birds can be treated with a vaccine through the food of water. Vaccination makes too much stress for those wild birds. Our birds get every year a vaccine against Newcastle disease through the drink water without any difficulty and without attendance from the authorities.
PHEASANTRY EASIER TO FIND (10-05)
It's now easy to find Pheasantry de Rooie Hoeve. The municipality Bernheze placed some green signs with Pheasantry from the church in Heeswijk to the bird garden.
Highway A50 is also open now and easy for people who are coming from the Northeast en Southeast part of our country. They take the exit Veghel/Heeswijk-Dinther.
All other visitors take the exit on the highway A2 's-Hertogenbosch/Veghel nr. 21 and follow direction Veghel. We also have made this year 10 parking places near
the entrance of the bird garden.
BOOK FAIR (01-06)
On the page Library of our website from now you can find a book fair with books about pheasants who are no longer to become in bookshops. They will be important for
pheasant keepers for breeding and other information about keeping pheasants. On the page you can find all information about how to get this books, the price, the condition, etc.
From now there are three books available.
DISCOVER BUTTERFLIES (12-03)
With information we got from the BUTTERFLY FOUNDATION, children (and also adults!) can join in the project Children’s-Butterfly-look-
action from this season. There’s a field in the pheasantry with 34 different species of wild flowers, and it’s really an El Dorado from spring
till autumn for many different butterflies. With the aid of a butterfly map children could discover the different butterflies in the field.
In the field we have placed some ceramic butterfly pots where butterflies can take shelter by rain. Participators receive free a map for free
with much information about the living of butterflies.
Next season we also start with a project for detecting trees en birds. In de past we observed 78 different species of wild birds in the pheasantry
garden with some rare species for our region for example the kingfisher, the grey flycatcher and the barn owl.
With this project the pheasantry will fulfil some more her targets about education and information.
THE BIGGEST BIRD OF....? (09-05)
This fantasy-bird on the left side is a polyester sculpture made by the Belgium artist Cynthia Dekeyser. It's named Compassion. This sculpture is looking across the puddle in the pheasantry since the 26th of May. His length is 3.10 metres, width 3.00 m and deep 0.90. His weight is 350 kg.
The question is: IS THIS THE BIGGEST BIRD.... OF THE NETHERLANDS?.... OF EUROPE?.... OF THE WORLD?
Who knows the answer? Please mail to the pheasantry if you know where and how big you have seen a bird. Our mail-address is : info@dederooiehoeve.nl
This season the giant bird got a chicken, which is now on the opposite of the pool. Next year there will follow another surprise!
